Information on Opening a Fair Trade Shop

Fair Trade Shops sell, in the main, products from Southern (Third World) producers who meet internationally agreed fair trade criteria. They promote fair trade in a variety of ways: by raising the profile of fair trade retailing on the High Street, by supplying information, giving talks and campaigning for a change in the unfair rules for international trade.

To help those interested in opening their own fair trade shop, a number of BAFTS members pooled their experience into a document entitled 'Starting Up a Fair Trade Shop'. This covers key topics such as premisis, ownership, finance, staffing, stock and publicity.
